yes it gives the carpet a uniform length.

12. Describe the oven used to dry the carpet. Who in the TFE school designs carpet drying ovens?
Within the oven there is hot air circulated through nozzles on to the fabric surface. This hot air is heated by steam, oil, or direct gas. The movement of the carpet through the oven is by means of a pin stenter system.
13. Why are rolls of carpet usually cut into lengths of ~25 meters?
If they were made any longer they would be too long to handle.
14. Why are several loops put onto the looper before the tuft is cut?
If the first loop was cut the yarn would pull out of the cloth as the needle went up. If the second was cut, there would not be an anchor to tighten the back-stitch. The third loop acts as the back-stitch anchor, so it could not be cut. There is no further work for the tuft after the third position.
15. How does yarn tension effect pile height?
Higher tension equals shorter pile.
16. What is meant by 5/32 gauge carpet?
The distance between the needles is 5/32 on an inch.
17. How does the tightness and uniformity of the backstitch effect further processing of the carpet?
A tight uniform back-stitch in the primary backing cloth will mean that the application of the secondary backing is easier and neater.
18. What is a stop mark?
A line across the width of the carpet.
19. What influences the design of the tufting needles?
Yarn type, product requirements, operational experience, and availability
20. What angles describe the typical arrangement of the knife and the cutting edge on a cut pile tufting machine?
Shear, rake, pitch,tension
21. What is the function of the looper hooks?
To hold the loops of yarn from the needle.

Long life durable steal.

No. The cut pile loops are mounted the other way around so the yarn loops are carried toward the scissors action.

A knife block holds the knives in position. They usually old eight knives each.

To support the cloth.

Movements range from straight, single, double or triple step in either direction.

33. What types of things do you want to control on the tufting machine? I.e. what are the parameters that can be set, measured, monitored and/or controlled?
The starting and stopping of the machine. The length of the carpet to be produced. The speed at which the carpet is produced. The rate at which the yarn is supplied. The number of stitches per ten cm. Backing cloth tension. Pattern selection. Pattern creation. Pattern store. Editing/deletion of a pattern. Setting the tuft height, neddle height, looper, adn knife timing.
34. What system eliminates stop marks and ripple effects in the carpet during tufting?

35. Describe the needle stroke mechanism used by TUFTEX?
Each of the needle push rods are linked by individual adjustment quadrants. Each quadrant has a dedicated split shell eccentric. Needle stroke adjustment is achieved simultaneously as the bottom dead centre remains unchanged and the looper pick-up is unaffected.
36. Why do you want to have an adjustable bed plate on the tufting machine?
To control the pile height to exact tolerances.
37. What are some advantages to the machine remote diagnostics system? What do you see as the disadvantages to this type of system?
Technicians can remotely upgrade software packages, run periodic system checks on the machine, animate the machine running and check for anomalies, and download instructions to customers.
Everytime the machine operator wants to change its parameters he/she must get assistance from a Tuftex Engineer.
38. How many weeks (after the order is received by Tuftex) does it take TUFTEX to deliver and start up a machine? In your opinion, is this reasonable/acceptable/typical?
18 weeks. This seemed a little long to me.
39. What is TUFTEX's best selling point?
They offer After Sales Support, especially their remote diagnostic system.
40. Do you think TUFTEX's quality assurance plan is reasonable?
