At the Techtextil Show, I learned about the University of Applied Science. The University of Applied Science in Reutlinger has 145 years of success. The college was originally founded as a school of weaving and later as the royal college of technology and then a state school of engineering. The institute is dedicated to research and development in fiber technology. Their Study Abroad program offers great learning experiences in the field of textiles. They're a very successful German textile school.

One of the most interesting things I observed at the Techtextil Show delt with a company called Gentex that produced specifically protective fabrics. They're exhibit really caught my eye because they displayed a lot of combat gear that is definitely appealing to the male eye at least, so I immediately walked over to they're table to see what they were all about. A particular line of protective garment that was cool that they produced is named Lifetex. One of the Lifetex garments that the company displayed at the show was a chemical defense garment known as CPO (Chemical Protective Overgarment). This is a two-piece ensemble that consists of a jacket with an integral hood and pants. The outfit is made from a cotton poplin ripstop outer fabric and has a protective liner which is a combination of polyester knit, Ambersorb resin, and a polyamide nonwoven. One of the really interesting details is that the ensemble is light in weight and more comfortable than any of the older versions of the suit. Also, it is resistant to degradation by humidity and perspiration because it would obviously get hot in there. The garment meets all the performance requirements neccessary for active use which call for consecutive use over a 30 day period and protection of up to 24 hours after exposure to chemicals. The purpose for this suit is to outfit special services and SWAT team forces in a situation of chemical threat which I thought was very cool. And for all you fashion buffs out there, it's available in navy blue or black and comes in a wide assortment of sizes. Honestly, I thought that the textile show would be absolutely boring because it would be mostly business people and it would be hard to understand all that they were talking about. It turned out to be interesting. In addition to getting a lot of free things I was able to talk with people from all over the world. It was also enjoyable because it brought the applications of our class into view. There was a section of the showroom that was for people from France. Alot of the companies from France make tie-down straps. I think of them as the straps on TEVA sandals. The French company, Joubert, was my favorite booth. The man representing the country gave me a really cool piece of tie-down strap that I can use to make a belt. He said that I would be the only person in the United States to have that belt- the certain style/design on the strap is only sold in France. Joubert is the world's largest manufacturer of bungee cords. The other booth that I enjoyed the most was a French company that produces silk fabrics. The man had pictures of the clothes they make and it was really neat. It was interesting because it was a silk fabric that was stretchy at the same time. Sadly enough, he did not offer many any samples of the fabric!

Comments about The Champions' page:

We thought this page was quite informative and gave a great overview of what all this group saw at the Techtextil Show. Their page could have provided more detail about particular companies they saw at the show and what they were exhibiting. Also, they could have provided a link or two to some of these companies' web pages. Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to see the German HighTex dancers. It sounds like we missed out on quite an interesting show!

Comments about Mary Beth, Jason, and Allen's page:

This group did an excellent job discussing the many companies they visited at the Techtextil Show and the products they were displaying. We really enjoyed all the great pictures that this group provided for the viewer! Maybe they could provide a link to a company's web page for more info. Nonetheless, their page was informative and very appealing to the eye. We especially enjoyed the particular paragraph about the ghost suit and the picture that went along with it. What an incredible product!
